Who We Are
Cultural heritage organizations serve communities by promoting and safeguarding their identities, traditions, and values.
Cultural heritage includes tangible assets such as buildings, monuments, landscapes, archive materials, artworks, and artifacts; it embraces and celebrates communities’ folklore, storytelling, knowledge, and lived experiences (intangible assets).
BlackLight is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves as Indiana's only Cultural Heritage Development Corporation (CHDC), and works to honor the rich cultural heritage of Black communities everywhere. We strive to protect cultural heritage through equitable development, environmental justice, and education-based programming.
Our Mission
To build upon the legacy of Black communities through cultural heritage-based planning, collaboration, scholarly research, and design.
